Legend has it that at the foot of Montaña Cardón a mythical pre-Hispanic warrior is buried: "El Gigante Mahán". They say that this mythical character measured 22 feet tall, a little over six metres, and had 64 teeth.

The Giant Mahán, the mysterious figure and mysterious hero who died fighting against the newly arrived Norman conquerors, was so famous that during his exile in Fuerteventura, the great Unamuno imagined him fighting with Don Quixote. The tomb is located in the municipality of Pájara, near the centre of the island.
