If you travel to Tenerife one of your mandatory stops has to be at a guachinche, one of the most typical gastronomic establishments on the island. The origins of the guachinches date back several years ago, when the locals used to gather in a garage to fill their stomachs and enjoy a good glass of wine produced nearby. Little by little, the fame of the guachinches was increasing until it became what they are today: a place with a brief but delicious menu where the homemade recipes and typical dishes of Canarian gastronomy predominate.

But there are several things you should know before organizing your route by guachinches. First of all, sometimes these establishments are a little far from the town center. In this sense, it is helpful to have a cheap rental car that helps you to move from one place to another. Secondly, you must be willing to eat a lot, as the portions here are usually generous. Once you are clear about these two points, we can start our route... Take note and don't miss anything!

Guachinche Los Gómez - La Orotava

Its specialty is the cochino (pork) and the ropa vieja (Canarian stew), although the menu includes other mouth-watering dishes. They also have their own wine, which is quite tasty and it is certainly a good companion with meat and garnishes. Los Gómez has been feeding tourists and locals for more than 10 years, this proofs that they offer food quality at the best price

Guachinche Plácido - La Matanza

Small and cozy, this guachinche has only a simple sign to differentiate it from the rest of garages in the neighborhood of La Matanza. It is run by a local family, which means that each of these dishes is prepared with a special care and affection. No matter what you choose, the menu always surprises and leaves you with an unbeatable taste in your mouth.

Guachinche Lito - Santa Úrsula

This small colonial-style cottage accommodates a full-talented cuisine. The guachinche Lito is located in Santa Úrsula and is easily accessible if you go with a rental car. A blackboard announces the dishes of the day, although if you have doubts you can ask the staff. You won’t find better advisers than them to taste the best Canarian food.

Guachinche Casa Ramiro - La Laguna

Never trust appearances. Behind the simple façade is one of the most typical guachinches. Besides enjoying a good meal, this is the perfect place to appreciate one of the most beautiful corners of Tenerife: Las Mercedes. After dessert, drive with your rental car in Tenerife towards the TF-12 and enjoy the lush vegetation and incredible views of this mountain. Undoubtedly, the best way to finish a perfect meal!
