Canary Islands Day: a party to celebrate our origins
May 30 is Canary Islands Day. A day to remember the traditions held by our ancestors. Despite belonging to the same autonomous community, each island has its own sense of identity and its own unique customs and traditions. Do you want to know more about these amazing and wonderful islands?

You can get here by boat or plane, the latter being the most comfortable way. In addition, you will find cheap hire cars at Tenerife Airport, Gran Canaria and even the smallest islands. A hire car is an ideal way of getting to know the whole terrain from end to end.

Gran Canaria has an important cultural, artistic and historical heritage. There are numerous places of interest, from the Maspalomas Dunes Natural Reserve in the south, to the Cueva Pintada Archaeological Museum and Park in the north. Las Canteras Beach, located in the centre of the city, makes the island a veritable paradise. Why not discover Teror and its Cathedral of the Virgen del Pino with Payless, your cheap rental car company in Gran Canaria? Park up and enjoy strolling through its pretty streets while savouring a chorizo sandwich from Teror.

On the other hand, Corralejo, Puerto del Rosario or El Cotillo are the most famous places for the holidays of many islanders, where they enjoy a rich old "sancochada" (a typical fish dish) accompanied by boiled potatoes with mojo sauce. Discover Fuerteventura, an island belonging to the province of Las Palmas, and its miles and miles of white sand, which ranks alongside Caribbean beaches.

Lanzarote, the land of wines and volcanoes, is known for the Timanfaya National Park with its Mountains of Fire, the Jameos del Agua, the Cueva de Los Verdes and La Geria, among others. Enjoy its wonderful red landscapes with a good goat milk cheese, accompanied by bienmesabe and a Malvasia wine, which has its own Designation of Origin.

El Teide, the highest peak in Spain, is located in Tenerife. Take a cheap rental car at the airport of Tenerife and head north, where you will find San Cristobal de la Laguna, a historic town that is one of the most emblematic and important historical centres of the Canary archipelago. Do you feel like going to the beach? Head to the south towards Arona, the municipality where the Playa de Los Cristianos is located.

"La Isla Bonita", La Palma, is characterised by beautiful and legendary landscapes with numerous springs of water and extensive laurel forests. Take one of our cheap rental vehicles at the La Palma airport and, in the middle of the afternoon, head to the Roque de Los Muchachos, where the International Astrophysical Observatory is located, and observe the most beautiful stars.

One of the smallest islands of the Canary archipelago, and famous mainly for the Garajonay National Park is La Gomera, which has lush forests and fascinating cliffs. Enjoy a cream of watercress with salted ribs and crunchy millet in Vallehermoso, the largest municipality on the island.

Finally, with 280 square kilometres, El Hierro boasts a great diversity of landscapes, from green to volcanic pine forests. El Charco Azul, two natural saltwater pools located to the north of the island, are a popular tourist attraction.
